I continue my check on the GOE of the best elements performed by the skaters with the score code +3/-3 and with the score code +5/-5. I explained the type of checking I’m doing in the post dedicated to Nam Nguyen. Later I did the same check, adding a couple of comparative graphs, on Alexei Bychenko‘s GOE and then I watched Brendan Kerry’s, Boyang Jin‘s and Keiji Tanaka’s scores. Now I watch Morisi Kvitelashvili’s scores.

For Kvitelashvili I took into account the scores obtained with both nationalities, Russian and Georgian. Kvitelashvili was born on March 17, 1995, therefore he is the same age as Yuzuru Hanyu but arrived at the most important competitions even later than another peer, Keiji Tanaka. He competed in a couple of Grand Prix competitions in the two seasons after the Sochi Olympic Games, but it wasn’t until he started competing for Georgia that he made his ISU Championship debut. He no longer had Russian skaters ahead of him, but it’s also true that his level has improved. And he continued to improve too after he turned 23, the age of Hanyu in PyeongChang. His best result at a World Championship was a 4th place in 2022 at the age of 27, compared to a 13th place finish in 2017. True, the 2022 World Championship, like many of the post-Olympic World Championships, has important absences, and that of 2022 was particularly poor despite some very imaginative scores, but a fourth place is always a fourth place. At the European Championship Kvitelashvili went from 6th place in 2017 to bronze in 2020 (although the fundamental contribution of Salome Chigogidze in that medal should not be forgotten), in the Grand Prix circuit he went from 5th place in 2017 to gold in 2021. Therefore Kvitelashvili’s achievements improved markedly between the ages of 23 and 27.

How have his scores changed?

They have definitely improved. There is a big improvement on some elements such as the 3F in combination, the 3Lo, two spins and the 4T in combination (no, today I won’t comment on that 4T), and also in the average. This is the detail of the changes:

I think these mean that one can improve even after the age of 23.

Proseguo il mio controllo sul GOE dei migliori elementi eseguiti dai pattinatori con il codice di punteggi +3/-3 e con il codice di punteggi +5/-5. Ho spiegato il tipo di controllo che sto facendo nel post dedicato a Nam Nguyen. In seguito ho fatto lo stesso controllo, aggiungendo un paio di grafici comparativi, sui GOE di Alexei Bychenko, quindi sono passata a quelli di Brendan Kerry, di Boyang Jin e di Keiji Tanaka. Ora guardo i voti di Morisi Kvitelashvili.

Per Kvitelashvili ho tenuto conto dei punteggi ottenuti con entrambe le nazionalità, russa e georgiana. Kvitelashvili è nato il 17 marzo 1995, quindi è coetaneo di Yuzuru Hanyu ma è arrivato alle competizioni più importanti ancora più tardi rispetto a un altro coetaneo, Keiji Tanaka. Ha partecipato a un paio di Grand Prix nelle due stagioni dopo i Giochi olimpici di Sochi, ma solo dopo aver iniziato a gareggiare per la Georgia ha esordito in un Campionato ISU. Non ha più avuto davanti a sé pattinatori russi, ma è anche vero che il suo livello è migliorato. E ha continuato a migliorare anche dopo aver compiuto 23 anni, l’età di Hanyu a PyeongChang. Il suo miglior risultato a un Campionato del mondo è stato un 4° posto nel 2022 a 27 anni compiuti, a fronte di un 13° posto ottenuto nel 2017. Vero, il Campionato del mondo 2022, come molti dei Campionati del mondo postolimpici, ha fatto registrare assenze importanti, e quello del 2022 è stato particolarmente sottotono nonostante alcuni punteggi molto fantasiosi, ma un quarto posto è sempre un quarto posto. Al Campionato europeo Kvitelashvili è passato dal 6° posto del 2017 al bronzo del 2020 (anche se non va dimenticato il contributo fondamentale di Salome Chigogidze in quella medaglia), nel circuito Grand Prix è passato da un 5° posto nel 2017 a un oro nel 2021. Perciò i risultati di Kvitelashvili sono notevolmente migliorati fra i 23 e i 27 anni.

Come sono cambiati i suoi voti?

Sono decisamente migliorati. Di tanto su alcuni elementi come il 3F in combinazione, il 3Lo, due trottole e il 4T in combinazione (no, oggi non commento quel 4T), e di tanto anche nella media. Questo è il dettaglio delle variazioni:

Credo che questi significhi che si può migliorare anche dopo aver compiuto i 23 anni.

Ho deciso di aggiungere un altro grafico. In questo caso vediamo la media del GOE con entrambi i codici di punteggio per tutti i pattinatori che ho controllati fino a ora. Lo sfondo colorato nella tabella dei nomi indica i pattinatori più giovani di Hanyu (sfondo verde), i suoi coetanei (sfondo bianco) e quelli più grandi (sfondo rosso).
