I continue my check on the GOE of the four best elements performed by the skaters with the score code +3/-3 and with the score code +5/-5. I explained the type of checking I’m doing in the post dedicated to Nam Nguyen. Later I did the same check, adding a couple of comparative graphs, on Alexei Bychenko‘s GOE and then I watched Brendan Kerry’s, Boyang Jin‘s, Keiji Tanaka’s, Morisi Kvitelashvili‘s, Alexander Samarin‘s, Matteo Rizzo‘s, Michal Brezina‘s, Vincent Zhou’s, Deniss Vasiljevs‘s, Kevin Aymoz’s, Keegan Messing‘s and Mikhail Kolyada‘s scores. Now I watch Shoma Uno’s scores.

Uno was born on December 17, 1997, is three years younger than Yuzuru Hanyu and is the same age as Kevin Aymoz, Boyang Jin, Nam Nguyen, Alexandr Samarin and Matteo Rizzo (the latter, according to ISU rules, could have passed in the senior category one season later than Uno, but he did it even later). So, Uno is a skater with a lot of experience, up to and including the 2017-18 season he took part in 9 competitions between the Olympic Games and the ISU Championships, more than Jason Brown (7 competitions), who is three years older than him, and both took part in 19 first level competition , with the definition encompassing Grand Prix competitions but not the Challenger Series. He has also won important medals: never a gold, if we exclude the individual Grand Prix competitions, but a remarkable collection of second and third places. including an Olympic silver, two world championships and, in the Olympic season, also those of the Grand Prix Final and the Four Continents Championship.

With the new code of scores Uno remained on the same level for several months, then he had a disastrous period, and started to get important results again from Beijing onwards. Ok, we could discuss at length about how those results arrived, who was there and who wasn’t, how marks were assigned, or about some particular episodes, but in Uno’s palmares there are several important medals. We can say that in the best competitions his level has more or less remained the same.

Despite this, the scores of Uno have dropped. Very strongly on 3A in combination, but dropped on most of the other elements as well, resulting in his average dropping as well.

The elements on which Uno’s scores have risen are not many. Among these is the 4F.

I’m embarassed, I swear. Do you remember Uno’s 4F? That prerotated, stuff done with the full blade on the ice? I’ll have to look at it, because, for example, the 4F performed by Uno in the free skate of the 2023 World Championship took 4.24 GOE points, 77.09% of the maximum GOE, while the 3A+2T combination performed by Hanyu in the Olympic free skate took 2.40 points, 60% of the maximum GOE. While waiting to think about the individual elements, if I ever decide to do so, I note that Uno’s marks have dropped on all the jumps except 4F. In comparison with the other skaters, Uno is the one who has the worst balance, with few elements on which his scores increased (only Jin improved on fewer elements) and many elements on which his scores worsened (only Jin worsened on a higher number of elements while Brezina worsened on his own number of elements and Nguyen is not far behind).

In overall average, Uno is the skater who has seen his scores drop the most.

Proseguo il mio controllo sul GOE dei migliori quattro elementi eseguiti dai pattinatori con il codice di punteggi +3/-3 e con il codice di punteggi +5/-5. Ora guardo i voti di Shoma Uno.

Uno è nato il 17 dicembre 1997, è più giovane di Yuzuru Hanyu di tre anni ed è coetaneo di Kevin Aymoz, Boyang Jin, Nam Nguyen, Alexandr Samarin e Matteo Rizzo (quest’ultimo, secondo le regole dell’ISU, sarebbe potuto passare in categoria senior una stagione più tardi rispetto a Uno, ma lo ha fatto ancora più tardi). È comunque un pattinatore con tanta esperienza, fino alla stagione 2017-18 compresa ha partecipato a 9 gare fra Giochi olimpici e Campionati ISU, contro le 7 di Jason Brown, che ha tre anni più di lui, ed entrambi hanno partecipato a 19 competizioni di primo livello, con la definizione che arriva a comprendere le gare di Grand Prix ma non i Challenger Series. Ha anche vinto medaglie importanti: mai un oro, se escludiamo le singole gare di Grand Prix, ma una collezione di secondi e terzi posti notevole. compresi un argento olimpico, due mondiali e, nella stagione olimpica, anche quelli della finale di Grand Prix e del Four Continents Championship.

Con il nuovo codice di punteggi si è mantenuto sugli stessi livelli per diversi mesi, poi ha avuto un periodo disastroso, e ha ricominciato a ottenere risultati importanti da Pechino in poi. Ok, potremmo discutere a lungo sul modo in cui sono arrivati quei risultati, su chi c’era e chi no, su come sono stati assegnati i voti, su alcuni episodi particolari, ma nel palmares di Uno ci sono diverse medaglie importanti. Possiamo dire che nelle gare migliori il suo livello è più o meno rimasto lo stesso.

Nonostante questo, i voti si Uno sono scesi. In modo molto deciso sul 3A in combinazione, ma è sceso anche sulla maggior parte degli altri elementi, con il risultato che è scesa anche la sua media.

Gli elementi su cui i voti di Uno sono saliti non sono molti. Fra questi c’è il 4F.

Io sono in seria difficoltà, giuro. Avete presente il 4F di Uno? Quella roba preruotata e con una puntata fatta con l’intera lama e non solo con la punta del pattino? Dovrò guardarlo, perché, per esempio, il 4F eseguito da Uno nel libero del Campionato del mondo 2023 ha preso 4.24 punti di GOE, il 77,09% del GOE massimo, mentre La combinazione 3A+2T eseguita da Hanyu nel libero olimpico ha preso 2.40 punti, il 60% del GOE massimo. In attesa di ragionare sui singoli elementi, se mai deciderò di farlo, noto che i voti di Uno sono scesi su tutti i salti tranne il 4F. Nel confronto con gli altri pattinatori, Uno è quello che ha il bilancio peggiore, con pochi elementi su cui i suoi voti sono aumentati (solo Jin è migliorato su un minor numero di elementi) e tanti elementi su cui i suoi voti sono peggiorati (solo Jin è peggiorato su un più alto numero di elementi mentre Brezina è peggiorato sul suo stesso numero di elementi e Nguyen non è tanto lontano).

Nella media complessiva, Uno è il pattinatore che ha visto i suoi voti peggiorare di più.
