After the 4Lz (as a solo jump or as the first jump of a combination) I go on with my check on Nathan Chen’s elements. In the first post of the series, dedicated to Hanyu’s 4Lo, I explained how I worked.The following ones were dedicated to the 4S, the 4T in combination, the 4T, the 3A in combination, the 3A, the 3Lz, the 3F and the 3Lo. When I watched the CCoSp I added some explanations on spins. Later I also looked at the CSSp, and since that spin is part of the short program on Chopin’s Ballade No. 1, in the same post I looked at the marks of that program the times Hanyu completed it without making any mistakes. I wrote also about the FCCoSp, the FCSSp, the FCSp, the StSq and the ChSq1.

Chen did more 4F than 4Lz, so I had no problems doing my checks. In fact for the solo 4F I found ten executions with positive GOE in international competitions in both periods, for the combinations I had to put together the double and triple toe loop combinations, and even so I had to enter the table some executions made at the National Championship.

If we look at the average of the top 10 executions, Chen’s score is up 17.43%. If I exclude the National Championship from the check, but also the negative GOE (in the short program of Skate America in 2021 Chen landed badly, made a step out, and by rule the second jump of the combination was excluded from the score. And, always by rule, with an error of this type, in the short program the element must receive a -5, otherwise I think the GOE would have been negative but not that low), the difference is not so big, but Chen’s marks are rose by 15.93%, still a notable growth.

Finally, if I look at the best four executions (note that with the +3/-3 system I used fot the average the score he obtained at the National Championship, the highest evaluation received by Chen in that period, while with the +5 system /-5 I didn’t consider the three evaluations received at the National Championship, which would have raised this last average), the average grew by 5.61%.

Whatever data we look at, according to the judges Chen has improved in executing the 4F in combination, and by a lot.

Dopo il 4Lz (da solo o in combinazione) proseguo il controllo sugli elementi eseguiti da Nathan Chen. Ricordo che ho già spiegato il modo in cui ho lavorato quando ho controllato i voti ricevuti da Hanyu sul 4Lo. Ho dedicato i post successivi al 4S, al 4T in combinazione, al 4T, al 3A in combinazione, al 3A, al 3Lz, al 3F e al 3Lo. Quando mi sono occupata della CCoSp ho aggiunto qualche spiegazione sulle trottole. In seguito ho guardato anche la CSSp, e visto che quella trottola fa parte del programma corto sulla Ballata N. 1 di Chopin, ho guardato i voti di quel programma le volte in cui Hanyu lo ha completato senza commettere errori. In seguito ho guardato la FCCoSp, la FCSSp, la FCSp, la StSq e la ChSq1.

Chen ha eseguito un numero di 4F superiore rispetto a quello dei 4Lz, perciò non ho avuto problemi a fare i miei controlli. Di fatto per il 4F da solo ho trovato dieci esecuzioni con GOE positivo in competizioni internazionali in entrambi i periodi, per le combinazioni ho dovuto riunire insieme le combinazioni con il doppio e con il triplo toe loop, e anche così ho dovuto far entrare nella tabella alcune esecuzioni fatte al Campionato nazionale.

Se guardiamo la media delle migliori dieci esecuzioni, il voto di Chen è salito del 17,43%. Se escludo dal controllo il Campionato nazionale, ma anche il GOE negativo (nel programma corto di Skate America nel 2021 Chen è atterrato male, ha fatto uno step out, e da regolamento il secondo salto della combinazione è stato escluso dal punteggio. E, sempre da regolamento, con un errore di questo tipo, nel programma corto l’elemento deve ricevere un -5, altrimenti penso che il GOE sarebbe stato negativo ma non così basso), la differenza non è così netta, ma comunque i voti di Chen sono saliti del 15,93%, la crescita rimane notevole.

Infine, se guardo le migliori quattro esecuzioni (da notare che con il sistema +3/-3 ho inserito nella media il punteggio che ha ottenuto al Campionato nazionale, la valutazione più alta ricevuta da Chen in quel periodo, mentre con il sistema +5/-5 non ho considerato le tre valutazioni ricevute al Campionato nazionale, che avrebbero alzato quest’ultima media), la media è cresciuta del 5.61%.

Qualunque dato guardiamo, secondo i giudici Chen è migliorato nell’esecuzione del 4F in combinazione, e di tanto.
